On Thursday 9 April 2020 at 11.00 hrs. at the Reception Room, 25th Floor, Sookprapruet Building, the President of the Senate welcomed H.E. Mr. Michael George DeSombre, Ambassador of the United States of America to Thailand on the occasion of assuming the position. Mr. Supachai Somcharoen, Second Vice-President of the Senate Mr. Weerasak Kowsurat, First Vice-Chairman of the Committee on Poverty and Inequality Reduction, and Mr. Nut Phasuk, Secretary - General of the Senate also attended the reception.


On this occasion, the President of the Senate welcomed and congratulated Ambassador of the United States of America on the new position. The President of the Senate mentioned the good relations between Thailand and the United States of America for over 200 years and the strategic partnership between ASEAN and the United States of America. Furthermore, he expressed the deepest condolences on the passing of American citizens caused by COVID-19 Virus and expressed sympathy to people affected by the crisis. He also affirmed that the COVID - 19 pandemic control will be successful as all nations actively join hands and cooperate with the nations encountering the effects.


Ambassador of the United States of America thanked the President of the Senate for the warm welcome and expressed that he is ready to continuously support and promote the cooperation with Thailand in economy, military and public health. Regarding the public health, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has cooperated with Thailand to resolve the COVID-19 outbreak. The CDC will allocating 8 million USD supporting fund to Thailand.

Both sides agreed to closely collaborate to support and promote the stronger relations in all aspects and to maintain the relations as strategic partnership between ASEAN and the United States of America and promote Thailand’s role as the leader in ASEAN region.
