On Monday, 25 February 2019, 14.30 hrs. at Reception Room, 2nd Floor, Parliament Building 2, the First Vice-President of the National Legislative Assembly, welcomed Dr. Daniel Kertesz, World Health Organization (WHO) Representative to Thailand, on the occasion of paying a courtesy call for a discussion about the enactment related to road safety in Thailand. In addition, ACM Chanat Ratana-ubol, member of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) as Vice-Chairperson of the Committee on Integration and Coordination of Emergency Medical Service and the executives of the Secretariat of the Senate consisting of Mr. Nut Phasuk, Secretary-General of the Senate and Mr. Kanawat Wongkaew, Advisor on Legislative Procedure also welcomed WHO Representative to Thailand.

 

In this regard, the First Vice-President of the National Legislative Assembly explained the progress of the NLA’s implementation in the improvement of laws related to road safety such as the consideration of Land Transport Bill (No. ..), B.E. …. and Land Traffic Bill (No. ..), B.E. …. which was approved by the NLA last week. Another bill concerning the establishment of a Traffic Court is expected that it may not be considered in time by the NLA. Then this bill will be submitted to a new Parliament for further consideration. The First Vice-President of the National Legislative Assembly expressed appreciation to Dr. Daniel Kertesz for his recommendations on road safety. Dr. Daniel proposed to have the installation of Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and dedicated lanes for motorcycles. These recommendations will be brought to discuss in the meeting of the Committee on Integration and Coordination of Emergency Medical Service on Feb 27, 2019. Moreover, The NLA is ready to work closely with WHO for reducing the number of injured or the death toll from road accidents and improving quality of life for Thai people.
