On Thursday 20 August 2020, at 13.30 hours, reception room, 25th floor, Sookprapruet Building, Professor Pornpetch Wichitcholchai, President of the Senate, welcomed H.E. Mrs. Sarah Taylor, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Thailand, who paid a courtesy call on the President of the Senate on the occasion of her assumption of duty. Mr. Supachai Somcharoen, Second Vice-President of the Senate, and Mrs. Pikulkeaw Krairiksh, Chairwoman of the Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, also attended this welcome.


Both sides praised the seamless and constructive diplomatic relations shared with one another while having good bilateral relations through many channels, particularly trade, investment and cooperation through education and research and also tourism. Next year will be the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations where there will be activities organized between both countries. In regards to parliamentary relations, parliaments from both countries had established Parliamentarians friendship Group between each other, believing that the Friendship Group was not just a mechanism to meet and exchange legislative opinions and experiences, but was another mechanism to create and strengthen relations and cooperation between the two countries. Both sides were also confident when COVID-19 perishes in the future, there would be different level of visits taking place. Furthermore, parliaments from both countries had cooperation through parliamentary trainings for executive level officials of the Secretariat of the Senate who are experts in legislative work to increase their experiences and create good network between one another. On this occasion, the ambassador of Canada to Thailand agreed to promote women’s participation in the parliament and expressed her believing and support that Thailand would be able to succumb through problems, such as managing the pandemic, and challenges the country faces politically in a seamless and successful manner.
