On Tuesday 12 May 2020, at 11.00 hours, Reception Room, 25th Floor, Sookprapruet Building, Professor Pornpetch Wichitcholchai, President of the Senate welcomed H.E. Mr. Ganesh Prasad Dhakal, Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal to Thailand who paid a courtesy call for introducing himself on the occasion of his assumption to the office, together with Mr. Supachai Somcharoen, Second Vice-President of the Senate, Mrs. Pikulkeaw Krairiksh, Chairwoman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Mr. Nut Phasuk, Secretary-General of the Senate.
 
 
The President of the Senate and the Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal to Thailand expressed their appreciation of long relations between Thailand and Nepal for over 2,000 years through Buddhism. The diplomatic relations between two countries have been officially established for 60 years. Both countries have the exchange of visits at all levels, namely the royal families, the government and the parliament. For the parliamentary relationship in particular, each parliament has set up its own Parliamentarians Friendship Group between each other in order to enhance and strengthen bilateral relations. Furthermore, both countries have the cooperation in promoting multilateral relations in various frameworks such as Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA). For the collaboration between governments, both countries play active roles in the implementation of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC), especially in the economy, trade and investment areas. This cooperation leads Thailand and Nepal to have the exchange of experiences and knowledge in various field continually.
 
 
The President of the Senate was confident that when the COVID-19 pandemic is resolved, tourists from both countries will travel between two countries increasingly and continually. The Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal to Thailand said that on 1 January 2020, the government of Nepal organized a program of “Visit Nepal 2020” for the promotion of tourism in Nepal. After the recovery of COVID-19 pandemic situation, Nepal would like to persuade Thai people to visit Nepal once in a lifetime because Nepal has the beautiful natural scenery and cultural diversity which are the highlight of the country’s tourism. Lumbini Vana, is especially one of four important Buddhist pilgrimage sites which many Thai people favour travelling to worship. The Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal to Thailand also took this opportunity to appreciate Thailand for the support and assistance of the 2015 historical earthquake in Nepal.
