The 1st Meeting of the AIPA Advisory Council on Dangerous Drugs

The 1st Meeting of the AIPA Advisory Council on Dangerous Drugs was held during 18-21 June 2018 in the Republic of Singapore. The delegation of the National Legislative Assembly attending the meeting with AIPA member countries and representatives of ASEAN Senior Officials on Drug Matters (ASOD) included Air Chief Marshal Chuchart Boonchai and Miss Jintanant Chaya Subhamitr. The AIPACODD meeting discussed 3 main matters as follows;
1) Country Report on Drugs Suppression
The delegates of member countries reported drug situation in their countries as well as guidelines and measures in combatting drugs. The delegates of the National Legislative Assembly of Thailand reported the situation of drug prevention and suppression in Thailand and proposed guidelines to prevent youth from drugs cycle by building knowledge on danger of drugs in children.
2) Discussion on Draft Resolution on Securing a Drug-Free ASEAN Communities for Future Generations
The resolutions emphasized prevention of drug abuse in children and youths with a focus on providing them with accurate information on danger of drugs. The delegation of the National Legislative Assembly of Thailand proposed guidelines for the solution to drugs problems with an alternative development approach. The guidelines articulate the importance of society and environment in each area to efficiently help solving drug problems.
3) Discussion on Terms of Reference (TOR) for AIPACODD
The country members discussed on the guidelines for AIPACODD operation and agreed upon strengthening ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly’s work on drug prevention and suppression. The AIPACODD meeting assigned the AIPA Secretariat to study the possibility to establish a working group on drugs aiming to look for guidelines and cooperation in preventing and suppressing drugs among member countries.
Despite the aforesaid matters, Air Chief Marshal Chuchart Boonchai, Head of the National Legislative Assembly Delegation, was honoured as a vice-chairperson of the meeting as Thailand will be a host for the next AIPACODD meeting. Acting as the vice-chairperson of the meeting, Air Chief Marshal Chuchart Boonchai was greatly admired by the meeting as he strongly supported the mission of the chairperson and sought for effective resolutions.
