On 21 October 2019, 13.30 hours, at Reception Room 25th floor, Sookprapreut Building, Professor Pornpetch Wichitcholchai, President of the Senate together with General Singsuk Singpai and Mr. Supachai Somcharoen, First and Second Vice-President of the Senate respectively, General Lertrat Ratanavanich, President of the Thailand-Russia Parliamentarians Friendship Group and Mr. Nut Phasuk, Secretary-General of the Senate, welcomed H.E. Mr. Evgeny Tomikhin, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Kingdom of Thailand on the occasion of congratulations on the assumption of position.

 

The President of the Senate and the Ambassador of Russia to Thailand appreciated the long and good relations between the two countries for over 122 years. Both countries have exchanged visits in all levels. There are many agreements in various areas such as military, agriculture, fishery, energy, finance and small and medium businesses, which benefit people in both countries. Furthermore, the parliaments of both countries continually cooperate in multilateral frameworks such as IPU, APPF and MSEAP especially in the areas of cyber security, energy, climate change and gender equality. There is also a cooperation between ASEAN and Russia.

 

Regarding the bilateral relations on economy, trade and investment between Thailand and Russia, both sides determine to strengthen the cooperation to be more stable and solid. Thailand is a strategic location for Russia to reach out to ASEAN region. There is the Eastern Economic Corridor, which benefits foreign investors by tax exemption, conforming with Russia’s “Turn to the East” policy to emphasize the progress on economic cooperation with the Asian region. In addition, both sides believe that in the future there will be more tourists traveling between the two countries. Meanwhile, they will enhance and promote the exchange of visits in parliamentary level.
