On Tuesday 27 August 2019, 14.00 hours, at Valley II Room, 1st floor, Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok, the President of the Senate, together with Mr. Supachai Somcharoen, Second Vice-President of the Senate, Mr. Virasakdi Futrakul, Senator, and Mr. Nut Phasuk, Secretary-General of the Senate, welcomed H.E. Mr. Tan Chuan-Jin, Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Singapore, on the occasion of visit Thailand between 25-29 August 2019, for attending the 40th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly.

 

The President of the Senate commended Thailand and the Republic of Singapore are marking the 54th anniversary of cordial relations. In part of legislative relation, both parties have good relationship and continuing development. Thailand established the Thailand-Singapore Parliamentarians Friendship Group. Both parties should promote advantages taken from this cooperation to tighten the cordial relationship between Parliamentarians Friendship Groups of the two countries for strengthening mutual cooperation in all aspects. More exchange of visits between the Parliamentarians Friendship Groups in the future are also expected.

 

In this regard, both parties agreed to support and to promote closer relations in all dimensions. The Thai party also informed that the National Assembly of Thailand will propose a candidature to run for the membership of the IPU Executive Committee during  141st  IPU Assembly in Belgrade, the Republic of Serbia and asked for the support from the Parliament of Singapore to this election. The Thai party expressed their belief in having support from Singapore Parliament which would result in stronger cooperation and relations between two nations.
